Reports say that Anthony Lanier II will be returning for a fourth season with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
The Green and White have yet to announced the move, but the 6’6″, 285-pound defensive lineman signed a one-year contract extension with the Riders Monday. However, Saskatchewan did announce Monday that Canadian defensive back Nelson Lokombo, the second player taken in the 2021 C-F-L draft, had signed a one-year extension with the club. Both Lanier and Lokombo were slated to become C-F-L free agents next month. A 30-year-old Georgia product, Lanier, has appeared in 35 career regular-season games with the Roughriders, registering 51 tackles, 14 sacks and two forced fumbles. Lokombo, who played his college football at the U of S, has played in 23 regular-season games, with five starts, recording 18 tackles, four special-teams tackles and a forced fumble. RIDERS’ FORMER 2nd OVERALL SELECTION LOKOMBO INKS EXTENSION
The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed National defensive back Nelson Lokombo to a one-year contract extension.
Lokombo (5’11-190) was selected by the Roughriders in the first round, second overall, of the 2021 CFL Draft. The 24-year-old has since played 23 career games and made five starts, notching 18 defensive tackles and one forced fumble. Lokombo also contributed on special teams where he tallied four special teams tackles.
A gifted college athlete, Lokombo’s 2019 season at the University of Saskatchewan earned him the Presidents’ Trophy as the country’s most outstanding defensive player. During that season he made 39 tackles, six tackles for loss, three sacks, five interceptions – two of which he returned for touchdowns, four pass breakups, and one forced fumble. He was also named Canada West’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player, a Canada West All-Star and a U SPORTS First-Team All-Canadian.
In 30 career games with the Huskies, Lokombo made 115 tackles,10 interceptions, six tackles for loss, three sacks, and two forced fumbles. In 2017, the Abbotsford native was named the Huskies’ Rookie of the Year.

RIDERS ADD SOONERS STANDOUT DEFENSIVE BACK C.J. COLDON
The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed American defensive back C.J. Coldon.
Coldon (5’10-186) signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent after the 2023 NFL Draft and spent a portion of the season on the practice roster. The Illinois native had a strong senior season, having transferred to Oklahoma for his final year of eligibility in 2022. In 12 games as a Sooner Coldon made 42 defensive tackles, including two tackles for loss, four interceptions and six pass deflections. His four interceptions led the team and ranked third in the Big-12 Conference. He was also named an All-Big 12 honorable mention.
Prior to attending Oklahoma, Coldon spent five collegiate seasons (2017-21) at the University of Wyoming where he played 24 games, starting in 21. Over that time, he tallied 115 defensive tackles, seven tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions, 16 pass deflections, and two fumble recoveries, including one he returned for a touchdown. He was named a second-team All-Mountain West Conference selection in his final season as a Cowboy (2021).
