The City of Saskatoon has awarded an almost $97,000 contract for bike advocacy. According to the Request for Proposals, the BYXE Street Team will provide in-person, on-site cycling education and foster community support for cycling.
The Canadian Taxpayers Federation says $50,000 comes from the federal government and the rest from the City of Saskatoon. CTF’s Prairie Director, Gage Haubrich, suggests advocacy is already being done by the Saskatoon Cycling Club with their various events throughout the year. He says, “City Council needs to stop spending money on these frivolous programs when it can barely afford to pay for basic services,” said Haubrich. “The city needs to halt this wasteful project before it gets off the ground.”
