February is Black History Month across Canada and African-Canadian/Black History Month in Saskatchewan. The theme this year is “Black resistance” which celebrates how African-Canadians have resisted oppression, discrimination and prejudice.
It’s also the 20th anniversary of the virtual Saskatchewan African Canadian Heritage Museum. Executive Director, Carol Lafayette-Boyd, says “It is important to acknowledge the contributions African-Canadians have made to our province and to understand the vital roles played in our history. ” She hopes all citizens will continue to resist racism, prejudice and discrimination and instead embrace diversity, inclusion and equity.
