The man behind three significant franchise scoring records and the signature “Banhamian Spinerama” move will, deservedly, have his number retired by the Saskatoon Blades on Saturday, March 9.
Frank Banham’s Number 39 will be raised to the SaskTel Centre rafters prior to the current Bridge City Bunch’s home game against Edmonton, alongside Bernie Federko’s Number 15, Wendel Clark’s 22, Brian Skrudland’s 10, Bob Bourne’s 12 and the Number 7 worn by both Gerry Pinder and Brent Ashton. The now 48-year-old Banham sniped 190 goals amongst 370 points over 278 games between 1992 and 96, highlighted by his 83 goals as a 20-year-old in 1995-96 while wearing 39. What isn’t as well known is that Banham wore four different numbers in his four seasons with the Blue and Gold…12, 17, 3 and 39 in that order. Saskatoon’s next action is Friday against Central Division-leading Medicine Hat at SaskTel Centre. Following is the news release from the Blades…..
