Construction is expected to begin this spring on the expansion of Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert. The $898 million contract has been awarded to PCL Construction Management.
Prince Albert Grand Council is working with the provincial government and the Saskatchewan Health Authority on designing the cultural space that will be central to the new main entrance. PCL is engaging with local and Indigenous vendors to deliver services for the construction.
The new acute care tower will be connected to, and directly north of the existing hospital. Beds will increase from 173 to 242. The SHA’s CEO, Andrew Will says, “This important project provides the opportunity for the SHA to deliver expanded services for Northern residents in key areas, including intensive care, medical imaging, adult mental health treatment, and children’s and maternal services.” It is expected the project will be done in 2028.
The new tower will mean an expanded emergency department, larger operating rooms, pediatrics, maternity, NICU, new medical imaging and a First Nations and Metis Cultural Space. The tower will also have a heliport on the roof.
