As 23-year-old man faces several charges following a sexual assault early Saturday morning.

A woman told officers that she was the victim of a sexual assault in the 200 block of 3rd Avenue North around 7:30am.

Police observed a man hiding in nearby bushes. He took off after being approached—but was taken into custody a short distance away.

The suspect is charged with Sexual Assault Causing Bodily Harm, Assault by choking, and Obstruction.

The woman was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Police says the victim and suspect are not believed to be known to each other.
