Martensville City Council approved the operating and capital budgets for this year at a special council meeting on Tuesday. A news release from the City says Council has budgeted for a 4.9 per cent increase in total property tax revenue. It means a home assessed at $375,0000 will see an estimated increase in the municipal property tax of $10 per month.
Mayor Kent Muench (munch) says, “Escalating costs across all sectors presented Council with real challenges this budget.” He points to a significant increase in the cost of wages, support contracts and utilities. He believes the increase will ensure that existing services can be maintained.
Martensville will see increases from contracted service providers including garbage, recycling, organics and water. A news release from the City says SaskWater rates will rise 5.5 per cent, which is about a $5 per month increase for a home. Garbage and recycling will cost each household an extra $15 per year. For homeowners in the organics program, the monthly fee will increase by $2.50 a month.
