Even though the provincial unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.7 percent in January, the provincial NDP notes there were 6,200 fewer jobs in Saskatchewan last month.

NDP economy and jobs critic Aleana Young says this is possible because the provincial labor force also decreased by 8,300. While this leads to a stable unemployment rate, Young says it is the result of Saskatchewan residents leaving the province or giving up on finding a job altogether.
