Metis Nation-Saskatchewan applauds the movement of Bill C-53 to third reading in the House of Commons, moving self-governance forward.
It recognizes Métis Nation of Ontario, Métis Nation of Alberta and Métis Nation-Saskatchewan as Indigenous governments, affirming what is in the self-government agreements signed in Canada in 2019 and 2023.
MN-S President Glen McCallum, says Metis in Saskatchewan have been waiting more than 140 years to see self-government come to fruition and the adoption of Bill C-53 by the Standing Committee on Indigenous and Northern Affairs is a step forward.
There were a series of amendments agreed upon by all parties and now it’s back to the House of Commons for third reading.
