Well… after a ton of speculation and rumours… it looks like Beyoncé is dipping her toes into country music! And frankly I’m all for it. We know her as a pop icon, but apparently she’s got bigger plans. During the Super Bowl she dropped a little hint about “Renaissance Act 2” and my jaw about hit the floor. From the sound of the two tracks she teased called “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages”, this isn’t your typical country. It’s got that Southern twang but with Beyoncé’s unmistakable swagger. You can just picture her kicking back in cowboy boots like “y’all I run this show”. And honestly, I’m stoked to see what kind of style she brings to our beloved genre.
People have been speculating for a while if Queen B would ever wade into country waters. Remember that cowboy hat she rocked at the Grammys? Apparently she was sending a message. Subsequently choosing the biggest stage of all to announce this also feels very on brand for her. Now I know there will be some traditionalists who aren’t too happy about another pop star encroaching on their genre. But Beyoncé is a Texas girl, so this music is in her blood. Plus her “Lemonade” track “Daddy Lessons” really showed she can blend styles (in fact, I remember playing it on this station back when it was released as an example of how country music might be in her future).
Beyoncé has never been one to follow rules either. So blending genres and blurring lines is right up her alley. More than anything it’ll expose a whole new audience to country music PLUS. Just imagine the collabs we might see! Beyoncé and Carrie Underwood?! Or even Chris Stapleton?! LFG as the kids say. A mashup of their styles could really reshape what people think country can be and anything that pushes boundaries and inspires creativity is okay by me.
At the end of the day, I’m excited for this. Beyoncé knows how to make hits no matter what she tries. So haters can hate but I’ll be cranking those new tracks on repeat.
Beyoncé’s country era is knocking and we’re more than happy to let her in.
