Back in January, Meadow Lake RCMP began the investigation into drug trafficking on Waterhen Lake First Nation. Officers attempted to stop a vehicle several times, but the pickup truck fled each time. RCMP say with the help of Police Dog Services, the truck was found on the First Nation on February 1st, and it was tracked using a drone. When it stopped, officers move in quickly to block it so it couldn’t get away. A news release from the RCMP says the driver rammed a Police Dog Services vehicle repeatedly in an unsuccessful attempt to escape. There were no injuries.
A 28-year-old man was arrested, and a search was executed with four firearms seized. One of them was loaded. About 170 grams of cocaine, 28 grams of meth, trafficking paraphernalia and cash were also seized.
Antoine Hamm of Waterhen Lake First Nation is facing multiple charges including possession of a firearm for a dangerous purpose, flight from police, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and possession for the purpose of trafficking. His first court appearance in Meadow Lake was Monday, February 12th.
Then, last weekend as the investigation continued, officers from Saskatchewan RCMP’s Meadow Lake Crime Reduction Team conducted a traffic stop on Waterhen Lake First Nation about 8:30 Saturday night. Eighteen grams of crack cocaine was seized, along with 17 grams of cocaine, seven grams of meth, about 16 pharmaceutical-style tablets currently under investigation, a pellet gun and traffic paraphernalia.
Forty-three-year-old Terrance Lasa from Meadow Lake and 30-year-old Rachel Martell from Prince Albert are each facing two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking. Lasa is also charged with possession of a weapon contrary to a court order.
