Thanks to BHP, the Saskatoon YWCA is another $500,000 closer to its $19 million fundraising goal for a new transitional housing wing as well as repairs and renovations to the existing facility.
The addition to the housing wing will more than double it’s capacity to provide women and children with a safe place to stay. In 2022, YWCA says its Saskatoon Crisis Shelter & Residence turned away 4,253 women and children because they just didn’t have the space.
BHP’s investment will go towards YWCA Saskatoon’s Employment and Learning Centre, a place where clients have access to programs and services that help them obtain sustainable employment.
Karina Gistelinck, Asset President of BHP Potash describes the YWCA Saskatoon as providing critical work that creates positive and lasting impact. She says, ” Access to training and courses opens doors and a new world of opportunity. Through the Employment and Learning Centre the YWCA is playing an important role in bringing access to people when it is most needed.”
