The City of Saskatoon is highlighting in a news release the information reports presented to the Governance and Priorities Committee on Wednesday which bring more into focus the conceptual design overview and the interim district plan for the Downtown Event and Entertainment District.
Director of Technical Services, Dan Willems, says the conceptual designs include a number of public spaces including an outdoor concert terrace and pavilion, a ‘gateway’ plaza at the entrance to the proposed event centre and arena and a courtyard on the east side.
The hope is that when people are heading to or leaving an event, they may have earlier arrivals or later stays with the extra opportunities in the area, which would diffuse trips across downtown over a number of hours.

On February 28th, City Council will discuss the convention centre options, including the renovation and smaller expansion of TCU Place, as was approved by the Government and Priorities Committee meeting on Wednesday.
Buying the downtown YMCA property is also on the agenda.
