There is one more day for the free fishing weekend in Saskatchewan. That means you can go out and catch fish without a sporting license. It applies to all Saskatchewan public water bodies that are open to sport fishing but does not apply to national parks. All other sport fishing regulations remain in effect.
Since most spots are frozen over Murray Koob a Sport Fish Biologist with the ministry of environment gives some tips to safely ice fish.
“The biggest thing is to be aware of ice conditions before you get out on the ice. You know you should always test your ice thickness before you travel. We suggest at least 10 centimetres of good ice before you walk out onto the ice to safely support someone on that ice.”
He also recommends dressing warmly and to check the weather forecast before heading out.
