Since Kherington was four years old, she has been spending a lot of time at the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital.
She is now 12 years old and has been diagnosed with several rare conditions although the underlying cause remains unidentified.
Kherington has been named Saskatchewan’s Champion Child for the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation.
Spokesperson for the Foundation, Michelle Busa, says Kherington has had over 2,000 needles, numerous surgeries and visits JPCH every two to four weeks.
Kherington says she feels comfortable at the hospital and comes early for her needles so she can say ‘hi’ to everyone.
She likes that it’s not scary for her to go get her needles.
Busa says having children feel at home was a priority when designing the hospital.
Children were brought on early in the design process to ensure it is a comfortable place.
Through the Champion Program, Kherington and her family will have the opportunity to travel to Orlando, Florida this spring to represent Saskatchewan families at Children’s Hospitals Week and meet other child ambassadors.
Throughout the year, she will be the ambassador in this province for the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital at various events and you will see her on billboards.
