The Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation has given five days notice of a two-day withdrawal of extracurricular support next Tuesday and Wednesday across the province. STF President Samantha Becotte says legally only 48 hours’ notice is required for job action, but they are giving five days to ensure the Minister of Education has the opportunity to consider the implications of escalated job action because the government won’t negotiate class complexity in the teachers’ contract.
She urges the government to include the offer that was made outside of bargaining as part of the Government-Trustee Bargaining Committee. Becotte says, if the Premier, the Minister of Education and the President of the School Boards Association are truly committed to improving the experience of students in schools, they should have no problem allowing the discussion of these items at the bargaining table.
