Almost all of Saskatchewan is affected by a weather alert as of Friday morning. The snowfall warning applies to much of northeast Saskatchewan like Cumberland House, Sandy Bay and Pelican Narrows where more heavy snow is expected today. The special weather statement is in effect for much of east central Saskatchewan including Prince Albert, Spiritwood, Duck Lake and then east to Yorkton Melville and Esterhazy where heavy snow and blowing snow are expected to begin Saturday night and continue through Monday. Total amounts of 10 to 20 cm are likely.
For most everyone else from the Battlefords to Saskatoon, Swift Current, Moose Jaw Regina and east to Estevan Weyburn it’s a winter storm warning. Environment Canada says heavy snow and blowing snow with low visibility is expected in southern Saskatchewan. We can expect 25 to 35 centimetres of snow combined with wind gusts of 60 to 70 km/h Saturday morning through till Monday night. A low-pressure system in Montana will bring heavy snow beginning in the southwest section of Saskatchewan on Saturday morning. Along with heavy snow, gusty winds will create blowing snow and reduced visibility. This area of snow and blowing snow will move northeast and cover the remainder of the southern half of the province by Sunday morning. Snow and blowing snow will continue through Monday. Environment Canada says near blizzard conditions are possible.
