Teachers are giving notice of a one-day rotating strike that will take place this coming Monday. This will be the withdrawal of all professional and voluntary services. Teachers will not report to school and will not perform any teaching-related duties for a 24-hour period.
The schools involved are the French school division which includes three schools in Regina, one in Moose Jaw, two in Gravelbourg and in Bellegarde. All schools in Holy Family Catholic School Division and South East Cornerstone School Division in Weyburn, Prairie South School Division in Moose Jaw, Regina Public Schools, Regina Catholic Schools, Saskatchewan Distance Learning Corporation which includes schools in Moose Jaw and Estevan.
Teachers from those school divisions will gather outside the Saskatchewan Legislative Building in Regina. This action coincides with the first day of the spring legislative session. The STF suggests supporters can join teachers on the strike line between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Saskatchewan Teachers Federation President Samantha Becotte says the province’s residents have sent over 110,000 emails to government and school board trustees since the beginning of the year and she describes the lack of response from the government as being “intransigent in their position.
