The province and the Saskatchewan School Boards Association have signed a multi-year funding agreement which guarantees a base amount of long-term funding to school divisions to support classrooms. Both the government and the Saskatchewan School Boards Association have said previously that they don’t believe funding for class size and complexity should be included in the teachers’ contract.
The agreement is for a minimum of $356.6 million a year for four years, as well as increased investment into youth mental health resources. The Premier announced in a social media post earlier this week that operating funding in the next fiscal year’s budget would increase by $180 million to a total of $2.2 billion. If the over $356 million is part of the education funding to be announced in the budget later this month and you subtract $180 million, which is the increase announced by Scott Moe, that would mean 176.6 million would be have to be taken from elsewhere in the operating funding.
