Faculty Associations from the University of Saskatchewan, the University of Regina and Saskatchewan Polytechnic joined the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation Monday morning to show their support for the teachers’ stance in the current labour dispute.
STF President Samanth Becotte says they are very frustrated the government is unwilling to move from its position.
“Some of the agreements that they offered, I know they offered STF an agreement through an MOU that was outside the bargaining process and now this multi-year funding agreement that they’ve made with SSBA outside of the collective agreement. Both of those things, if they would just be willing to put them within the collective bargaining process it would provide us with an opportunity to get back to the table.”
University of Saskatchewan Faculty Association Chairperson Geraldine Balzer stated, “Their students are, and will be, our students.” She says all the institutions thrive only with stable and adequate funding and the chronic lack of priority for education puts Saskatchewan kids at a disadvantage, from elementary school to post-secondary institutions, and to the workforce.
Teachers across the province are not helping with any extracurricular activities through till Wednesday. The STF has also announced no noon hour supervision on Thursday all schools in Conseil des écoles fransaskoise, Chinook School Division, Holy Family Catholic School Division, North East School Division, Prairie Spirit School Division, Regina Catholic Schools, Regina Public Schools, Saskatoon Public Schools and Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools.
