The Foreign Worker Recruitment and Immigration Services Act will be a thing of the past in Saskatchewan once the Province’s new Immigration Services Act is passed into law.
The new legislation was introduced Monday by the Government of Saskatchewan as a way to strengthen the immigration system, protect newcomers and employers and create the strongest program integrity framework in Canada. A government news release says the new legislation will give the province increased investigative authority and enforcement measures to tackle immigration fraud, including increased maximum fine amounts for offences and authorizing administrative monetary penalties for non-compliance. In addition, the act will offer stronger protection to foreign workers against exploitation and provide oversight of recruiters, immigration consultants and non-compliant employers.
