The wooden pedestrian walkway in Gabriel Dumont Park sustained severe structural damage following a fire Thursday morning.
The Saskatoon Fire Department responded to a report at 8:36 a.m. and were able to extinguish the fire to the wooden walkway at 10:05 a.m. and the Fire Investigator concluded the cause of the fire to be undetermined. There were signs of an abandoned encampment present in the immediate area of the fire.
The Fire Investigator has turned the scene back over to the City of Saskatoon Facilities Department with the walkway closed until an assessment and repairs can be made. Pedestrians are asked to avoid the area and follow signage directing them to use an alternate route until the walkway is reopened.
