A Fire Investigator has determined a vehicle and garage fire Friday morning was accidental caused from an extension cord plugged into the vehicle’s block heater causing it to overheat and ignite. Damage is estimated at $15,000 to the vehicle and the garage.
The call came in around 9:30 a.m. of a vehicle on fire on the driveway of a home in the 10 block of Moxon Crescent in Greystone Heights. The heat from the vehicle fire caused damage to the attached garage in the proximity of the heat. Fire caused minor damage to the garage. No one was injured.
With warm weather comes a friendly reminder from the SFD to unplug any exterior extension cords that are designed for below zero weather. They are heavily insulated and can overheat in warmer temperatures.
