If the two sides can’t come to a deal, the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation has been given the green light to continue job action in the new school year.
The STF says after two days of voting on May 15 and 16, 83 per cent of teachers cast a vote, with 95 per cent of voters supporting further sanctions until there is an agreement in place.
The sanctions renewal vote follows the rejection by teachers of the government’s last offer on settling the contract dispute.
Talks resumed this week and STF says the Teachers’ Bargaining Committee and the Government-Trustee Bargaining Committee have agreed to meet again today (Friday) for further negotiations.
In a news release the STF says, “Since negotiations began last May, teachers have been clear that articles addressing issues such as class size and complexity must be included within the agreement.”
In the last deal that was put forward those considerations were part of a memorandum of understanding but not the actual agreement.
