Now that the two virtual meetings with members of the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation have been held and they have reviewed the tentative contract agreement, details are available for the public.
STF President Samantha Becotte says the three year agreement includes a three percent salary increase for the first two years and then a two per cent raise in the third year. Classroom complexity is also addressed.
If accepted, an Accountability Framework will be signed by the STF, government and the Saskatchewan School Boards Association and attached to the Provincial Collective Bargaining Agreement as a Memorandum of Understanding. An additional $18 million a year would address complexity with the funds to be added to the Multi-Year Funding Agreement.
There would also be a Minister’s Task Force on complexity, which would be attached to the agreement as a Letter of Understanding. The Task Fork would include teachers, students and parents. From the Task Force, a final report including solutions would be presented to the Education Minister.
A policy table on violence-free classrooms would be established, with terms attached to the agreement as well, as a Letter of Understanding. Teachers will vote on whether to accept the contract next Wednesday and Thursday.
