Saskatoon baseball history will be made Saturday evening in Regina when the expansion Berries play their first game in the Western Canadian Baseball League against the Red Sox.
Several trivia questions for the future are expected to be answered, such as who the first Berries player to make a plate appearance will be, who the first pitcher will be, which player will get the first, score the first run, etcetera. A couple of those questions can be answered already, barring a late change before Saturday’s 7:05 first pitch at Currie Field in Regina. Saskatoon product and left-handed hitting outfielder Payton McHarg will be the lead-off hitter for the Berries while San Jose, California, native Mike Singleton will be Saskatoon’s first starting pitcher. Following are interviews about Saturday’s first game that Les Lazaruk did with Berries’ head coach Joe Carnahan and Singleton…..
The Berries will also play in Regina on Sunday afternoon before the Red Sox provide the first home game opposition for the new Saskatoon team on Tuesday at Cairns Field.
