Each year, Saskatoon and Area United Way holds a Day of Caring to celebrate volunteerism. That continues today (Wed) with volunteer projects hosted throughout the city.
Saskatoon and Area United Way CEO, Shari Benson, explains that groups of volunteers from companies like Nutrien, PCL Construction, Nordic Fencing and BHP are providing labour, expertise and professional services to community organizations for projects that need to be done.
One of the projects taking place is at Wanuskewin, where a volunteer team from Saskatchewan Blue Cross will learn about, and help remove, invasive plant species.
Benson adds that although today is the annual event, there have been volunteers lending a hand all spring. For instance, volunteers from PCL Construction and Nordic Fencing recently built a brand-new fence for the Saskatoon branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association.
Benson suggests if you have a group that might want to volunteer for a project, give the United Way a call, because there are always opportunities any time of the year.
