Tuesday morning the Saskatchewan Health Authority released a statement about the CIHI report on hospital capacity.

The SHA says the data submitted to the Canadian Institute of Health Information was incorrect “resulting in significant discrepancies with the occupancy level information that was reported by CIHI in their latest report.” The SHA says it is working to provide the correct numbers to CIHI.

The Saskatchewan NDP unveiled the numbers from CIHI on Friday saying that when averaged together, the occupancy rates of Saskatoon’s hospitals are 52 per cent, and the national average is 76 per cent occupied.

According to CIHI, Saskatoon City Hospital had the lowest occupancy rate in the city at 36 per cent, followed by Royal University Hospital/Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital at 54 per cent and St. Paul’s Hospital at 66 per cent.

The SHA says the numbers reported by CIHI in this report should not be used for Saskatchewan until data quality issues are addressed.
