An RCMP vehicle was damaged in a traffic stop on Thursday afternoon. White Butte RCMP were alerted about an impaired driver at the intersection of Highway 1 and the Highway 662 overpass near Balgonie, and found the suspect vehicle in a commercial parking lot.
An RCMP news release says the emergency lights were turned on and officers parked head on with the suspect vehicle. Police report that the suspect vehicle drove forward and struck the police vehicle twice, head on, and then fled. The vehicle was damaged but the officer driving wasn’t injured. A tire deflation device on Highway 47 was successfully deployed and the vehicle stopped.
Two women and a man were arrested. Thirty-three-year-old Tamara Cyr of Regina is facing charges which include assaulting a police officer with a weapon, flight from police and dangerous driving. The investigation is ongoing.
