Here are a few examples of the calls Saskatoon Police responded to recently:
Over the noon hour on Friday, Saskatoon Police responded to the 1000 block of 20th Street West and were told a man was threatening the lives of staff. A news release from the Police Service says officers found the suspect and while trying to speak with him, he began fighting with the officers and threatened to use the officers conducted energy weapon against them, before grabbing a hold of an officer’s carbine magazine. He was arrested but continued to resist and police say while in the back of the police car, he damaged the vehicle by repeatedly kicking it. A 27-year-old man is facing charges related to assaulting a peace officer, attempting to take a weapon from police and mischief over $5,000.

There were two firearm-related incidents, one on Friday and the next one early Saturday morning. Around 5:20 Friday afternoon, Saskatoon Police officers noticed a man on a bike reach for what was believed to be a firearm in his waistband, in the area of 21st Street West and Avenue O South. Officers turned on their emergency lights and then approached the man, but he fled on foot. A news release from the Police Service says officers found the man a short distance away attempting to throw a gun onto a roof. The 25-year-old was found to be in possession of cocaine and meth and is facing numerous firearms charges and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
Then in the early morning hours on Saturday, officers tried to stop a man on a bicycle when they noticed he was travelling carelessly on 33rd Street West. Police report the man fled but then was arrested outside a home in the 1300 block of Faulkner Crescent. Officers reported seizing a loaded slam gun, a loaded awed-off shotgun and multiple rounds of ammunition. A 26-year-old man is facing numerous firearms charges and charges related to evading police.

Another incident from Friday: Three teenage boys are facing charges in connection to a weapons call on a city bus. Just after 8 that night, Saskatoon Police responded to Fairmont Drive and Fairlight Drive about reports of bear spray being sprayed inside a Transit bus. The suspects fled and the bus driver and passengers had gotten out of the bus when officers arrived. All of the victims said they didn’t need paramedics, but they were able to give suspect descriptions.
The Police Service reports they were found in an alley in the 200 block of Fairmont Drive. Two were arrested and the third fled on foot, but was arrested shortly afterwards. Two 15-year-old boys and a 17-year-old boy are facing charges relating to five counts of assault, mischief over $5,000 and administering bear spray.
The two 15-year-olds are also facing weapon-related charges.
