Fresh off a donation announcement to further digital technology research and education at the University of Saskatchewan, Siemens has donated state-of-the-art simulation equipment to Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s Digital Integration Centre of Excellence. A Sask Polytech news release says the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio of software will enhance students’ understanding of multiphysics simulation and provide new opportunities for applied research.
Here is an example of something we wouldn’t have thought possible ten years ago: The simulation equipment will allow researchers to create a digital twin, which combines the real world with the digital world. By capturing real-time data, the digital twin understands the current state and simulates the future state as a basis for optimization of things like new equipment for manufacturing, healthcare, transportation and energy. Dr. Terry Peckham, director of the Digital Integration Centre and research chair at Sask Polytech, says, “We’ve only seen the beginning of what AI and related digital technologies can do,”
