“15” was part of the result for both teams following Saturday’s 6-3 Saskatoon Berries’ victory over the Weyburn Beavers at Cairns Field.
The win was the 15th of the season for the Berries while Weyburn lost a 15th consecutive game in front of 2,065 fans. After losing back-to-back home games on Thursday and Friday to Medicine Hat by a total score of 20-6, Saskatoon fell behind 3-1 to the Beavers going into the bottom of the third inning. That’s when centre-fielder Carter Beck started the rally with a solo home run to right field. The Carnduff product added two more singles for three hits in five at bats and drove in the game-winning run in the fourth frame as the Berries improved to 15-18 overall and 9-10 at home. Left-fielder McGwire Turner also went three-for-five at the plate while right fielder Nolan Sparks stole two bases and scored two runs as Saskatoon posted 12 hits. Wyatt Wiatrek overcame a sluggish start to pitch five innings and get the win while Kolt Davis and Tyler Davis pitched the final four innings, allowing just two hits to Weyburn, now 7-25 for the season. The same teams play Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. on Spero Leakos Day at Cairns Field. It’ll be the end of a stretch of 10 games in eight days for the Berries, including a pair of doubleheaders. Saskatoon is 5-4 going into the final game of that run. Following is Les Lazaruk’s post-game interview with Beck, plus the official linescore and game information from the W-C-B-L website…..
