The provincial government says a federal court has ruled in favor of Saskatchewan’s emergency injunction that blocks the Canada Revenue Agency from dipping into Saskatchewan funds.

Justice Minister Bronwyn Eyre says the injunction was needed after the federal agency moved to collect money owed  to Ottawa since the Saskatchewan government refused to collect and remit the carbon tax on home heating. The dispute started when heating oil was temporarily given a reprieve from the carbon tax by the federal government, which primarily benefited the Maritime provinces. Premier Scott Moe said it was unfair that natural gas was not included as well.

A successful injunction would prevent the Canada Revenue Agency from proceeding until the matter can be reviewed by the Tax Court of Canada.
