A 34-year-old man is facing numerous charges in connection to an RCMP investigation. Just before 6:30 Sunday evening, the Saskatchewan RCMP’s North Battleford Crime Reduction Team noticed a vehicle parked outside of a motel with plates registered to a different vehicle. A news release from the RCMP says officers knocked on the door of the associated hotel room and announced themselves, but there was no answer. Instead, a man appeared at the window and pointed what looked like the barrel of a firearm, so the motel was evacuated.
Officers say the man refused to leave the room. He was arrested about four hours later. A sword, a small amount of meth and a metal cylinder object, which investigators believe was the object pointed at the window, were seized. Police report the man initially provided a false name to officers and to the motel when he checked in, using a stolen credit card. He was also wanted for failing to comply with a release order condition and officers were told he had removed an electronic monitoring device related to a 24-hour-court-ordered curfew.
The charges for Michael Blackstar of North Battleford include resisting/obstructing a peace officer, identity fraud, assault on a police officer and uttering threats.
