RCMP in The Pas, Manitoba responded to a stranded boater on Friday night after the boat’s power and propulsion had failed while a family was on an outing on Clearwater Lake. The boaters, from Mitchell, Manitoba, had been stranded for three hours. Those stranded included a man, woman, their infant son and two dogs.
When RCMP got word, the boaters were adrift with no natural daylight after trying to fix the boat and the conditions were deteriorating with wind and waves picking up. In addition to that they didn’t know what direction they were drifting because there was no light.
Three RCMP officers headed out encountering three-to-four-foot waves. A blinking light alerted the rescue team to the boat’s location which RCMP said was dangerously close to a reef. The RCMP boat was maneuvered around the reef and officers secured the boat safely towing it back to shore. No one was injured.
The Pas Manitoba is 209 kilometres northeast of Nipawin.
