A 22-year-old man was injured after an unintentional firearm discharge on Wednesday afternoon. Saskatoon Police report that officers were called to an address in the 200 block of Avenue J North about an injured person and when they arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound and a sawed-off double-barrel shotgun next to him. From the investigation, it was determined he had been holding the gun when it accidentally went off, hitting him in the leg. He was transported to hospital by paramedics with what were believed to be serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Police continue to investigate.
Then, that evening, officers responded to a weapons complaint around 8 p.m. at the intersection of Lorne Avenue and Taylor Street and have charged a young teen in connection to this investigation. Officers were told two males were at the intersection and one was waving a gun around. A news release from the Police Service says the officers located two people who matched the descriptions given and one appeared to have a firearm. He was asked to drop it and then he was arrested. A 13-year-old is facing charges related to possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to public peace.
