Thirty pallets of unstamped tobacco were seized from a semi on Highway 1 near Swift Current on July 17th by Saskatchewan Highway Patrol. Officers then contacted the provincial RCMP for assistance. The semi was at a weigh station when an inspection was done and when the approximately 8.75 million unstamped cigarettes were discovered the driver was arrested.
The Saskatchewan RCMP’s Trafficking Response Team took over the investigation with help from the Swift Current Rural RCMP detachment. It was determined the load was travelling from Ontario to B.C. Saskatchewan Highway Patrol says this is the largest tobacco seizure in its history.
A 25-year-old Calgary man, Vishavpreet Singh is facing charges related to the possession for the purpose of selling an unstamped tobacco product.
