Moose Jaw Police in a joint investigation with Canada Border Services Agency took four Mexican citizens into custody during a recent investigation.
Moose Jaw Police say they were alerted to an unlicensed paving company operating within Moose Jaw. The company was operating under multiple names including “Hortons Paving and Masonry” and “Tartans Paving”.
Investigating officers were told the company went door-to-door offering driveway paving services to residents and in addition to using high pressure and aggressive sales tactics they wanted cash for payment.
The company wasn’t registered or licensed to operate in Moose Jaw. Police located the suspected paving crew working within the city which is when they discovered they were from Mexico and didn’t have documentation to work in Canada.
They were turned over to CBSA and arrested. Police say it doesn’t appear they are responsible for any crimes but urges residents to be diligent when hiring a business. Red flags can be door-to-door sales and high-pressure tactics. The matter is still under investigation.
