The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is applauding the provincial NDP’s promise not to raise taxes if elected, but it wants to see more being done to cut taxes and make life for affordable for those in Saskatchewan.
Gage Haubrich is the CTF’s Prairie Director. He says Carla Beck is right to recognize that Saskatchewan residents are overtaxed and can’t afford any more increases.
“Saskatchewan taxpayers are, out of any other group in the country, are the most likely to say they are struggling financially right now, so it’s good to see that the NDP isn’t going to add to that burden, but what we should see from both the NDP and the Sask. Party, is a commitment to do more on the affordability front, to cut taxes.”
Haubrich adds that Premier Scott Moe needs to step up and make the same promise that NDP leader Carla Beck has made.
“We’re happy that the NDP leader was so plain with her language when she talked about it. She promised not to increase income taxes, small business taxes, provincial sales tax or corporate tax. That doesn’t leave a lot of room for interpretation.”
She also promises to suspend the 15-cents-per-litre gas tax for six months and freeze the small business tax that she claims current Premier Scott Moe plans to double next July.
