A Leger poll for the Canadian Taxpayers’ Federation indicated 62 per cent of Canadians want the federal government to remove its sales tax from the carbon tax. CTF Federal Director, Franco Terrazzano calls this a gas tax-on-tax. He explains that the government applies sales tax after all the per-litre taxes are added, or a tax-on-tax.

A CTF news release says the Parliamentary Budget Office estimates removing the GST paid on the carbon tax would save taxpayers $505 million this year and more than $1 billion annually by 2030.
