The Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority is warning the public to be wary of unlicensed door-to-door salespeople.
All salespeople, also known as direct sellers, are required to be licensed in Saskatchewan and must adhere to specific contract requirements. For example, Tartans Paving and Hortons Paving and Masonry were caught conducting unlicensed door-to-door sales in Moose Jaw and the surrounding area.
The FCAA says there are certain rights you should know, should a salesperson come to your door. All contracts must be in writing unless the sale is less than $100. Also, all direct sales contracts must include a statement of cancellation rights.
You always have 10 days to cancel a contract without needing to provide a reason.
If a contract is canceled, the vendor must refund all money received under the contract within 15 days of cancellation.
To check if the salesperson is legitimate, ask to see a copy of their license and verify their listing on FCAA411.
