The Leader of the Official Opposition has announced that if she is elected premier, she will build a high school for White City and Emerald Park, with construction to start by the end of 2025.
Carla Beck says White City and Emerald Park have potential, but the towns need the infrastructure to match. A release from the NDP says parents have gathered nearly 800 signatures in support of the project, as the towns have a combined population above 5,000 but no high school.
Meantime, the provincial government has responded to the promise, stating that a school in that area is not on the division’s top 3 priority list. The Sask. Party release questioned why Beck would promise to fast track construction without explaining how that will be achieved.
The Province claims Beck is prioritizing new schools for political points instead of consulting with the local division to meet their needs. The release concludes by reminding the reader that the NDP closed 176 schools last time they were in office.
