The City of Saskatoon has received a Provincial Traffic Safety Fund Grant to install a more visible pedestrian crossing at 22nd Street and Avenue X.
The $78,000 for the project comes from photo speed enforcement proceeds and will be used for a pedestrian-activated signal as well as pavement markings and signage.
Director of Transportation, Jay Magus, explains that right now there are no pavement markings or illuminated signals to alert drivers that pedestrians could be crossing, and it is a high-traffic location.
Drivers will have to stop at a red signal when the new signal is operational, which is expected to be this fall.
