Athletes, coaches and mission staff who represented Saskatchewan at the Paris Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games were recognized by the provincial government at the Legislative Building today. Between the two Olympic events, Saskatchewan athletes earned five medals. Rylan Wiens and his diving partner Nathan Zsombor-Murray won bronze in the men’s 10-metre platform synchronized event. Carissa Norsten won a silver medal in women’s rugby. At the Paralympic Games sitting volleyball player Julie Kozun, Para swimmer Shelby Newkirk and Para cyclist Keely Shaw each won bronze.
Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Laura Ross congratulated all who were involved for their contributions. Thirty-eight athletes, coaches, mission and support staff with Saskatchewan ties represented the province in Paris. The Olympic contingent featured three mission and support staff, six coaches and 15 athletes and the Paralympic contingent featured ten athletes competing in seven different sports, four coaches and one mission staff member who worked both games.
