The Snow White Restaurant caught on fire around 4 o’clock yesterday (Wed) morning. Firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading to two adjacent businesses.
Biggar Mayor Jim Rickwood says they did an amazing job of keeping it contained to that property.
“The grocery store has minimal smoke in it, so they did a great job, and I take my hat off to them.”
The Snow White Restaurant was owned by Maggie Tan, who ran the business at that location for more than 30 years.
Mayor Rickwood says, “Maggie made a big name for herself. She’s very popular, she put out a really good meal and yeah, she was known all over Saskatchewan. Anyone travelling through there, you know, they got fed well.”
A social media post from Snow White Family Restaurant in Biggar was flooded with support after the owners took a moment to let the community know that no one was hurt in the fire. Maggie Tan also posted that they don’t know what the future holds. The cause of the fire has not been determined. The building is being demolished.
