Wildfire season is winding down in the province and while there were a lot more fires this year than the five-year average, it was not even close to the worst wildfire years on record.
Right now, there are 10 wildfires burning in Saskatchewan and none are considered out of control. As of 8 a.m. on Friday, there have been 604 wildfires so far this year while 389 is the five-year average.
The worst year on record was in 1998 when the province experience 1,266 wildfires. Rounding out the top three was 1988 with 1,061 and 1989 with 1,016.
