Earlier this week, the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation held a virtual public forum where candidates in the provincial election were asked to make a pledge for public education.
A news release from the STF says all six candidates from six parties in attendance took the pledge, which is a promise to advocate for public education and to ensure students and teachers get the support they need to succeed in the classroom.
STF President Samantha Becotte encourages teachers and all voters to listen to the policies and platforms of each party and make an informed decision about who they feel will best support the publicly funded education system.
The most important issues for the STF are to restore and maintain per-student funding, address class size and complexity and address the growing concerns of classroom violence.
Becotte says all registered parties received an invite to the forum.
Participants included Rose Buscholl of the Progressive Conservatives, Jeremy Cockrill of the Saskatchewan Party, Valerie Brooks of the Green Party, Matt Love from the Saskatchewan NDP, Jahangir Valiani from the Saskatchewan Progress Party and Philip Zajac from the Buffalo Party.
The Saskatchewan United Party didn’t provide a representative.
