Wetaskiwin, Alberta RCMP say on October 10th their members were on patrol when they spotted a vehicle towing a trailer displaying a stolen Alberta license plate. The vehicle fled south on Highway 2 when officers tried to pull it over and, in the meantime, a male inside the vehicle crawled out of the sunroof at highway speeds and started firing items at police. This person then unhooked the trailer and sped off.
A tire deflation device was deployed, the vehicle drove to a rural property, it was abandoned and another vehicle stolen which then continued to speed along rural roads in the Lacombe and Red Deer County areas. A second tire deflation device was successful and led to the arrest of two people from Alberta.
Forty-year-old Jeff Medd of Leduc County and 35-year-old Corey Peers of Wainwright were in court on Tuesday and remanded in custody.
Wetaskiwin RCMP thank Alberta RCMP ERT, RCMP Air Services, Police Dog Services, the Provincial Community Response Team, Ponoka RCMP, Rimbey RCMP, Blackfalds RCMP, Red Deer RCMP, Alberta Sheriffs FASST and officers from Edmonton Police Services for assisting during this incident.
