The family/grandparent scam has made a return to Saskatoon.
Police have received several reports of the scam, although so far, none have been successful.
Officers say the family/grandparent emergency scam involves a potential victim, who is often an older adult, receiving a phone call from someone claiming to be a family member in an emergency and in need of money.
A second fraudster often calls the victim claiming to be an authority figure such as a police officer, lawyer, or doctor.
The callers often as for payment in the form of cash, gift cards, or cryptocurrency. Police say this is a scam and they advise the public to ask important questions of the caller to verify their identity.
If you have become the victim of fraud, contact your local police or report it to the Saskatoon Police Service.
