The Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team has been notified following the death of a man in RCMP custody.
Friday night at 12:20 a.m., Carlyle RCMP responded to a reported assault at a residence on the White Bear First Nation, where they found two injured individuals.
A 49-year-old man, from the same community, was arrested and taken to the Carlyle Detachment.
At around 9 a.m., officers noticed the man was in medical distress and attempted to administer first aid until EMS arrived. He was later pronounced dead.
SIRT is now investigating the circumstances surrounding his death, while the Carlyle Detachment continues a separate investigation into the initial assault.
